SOLUTIONS: automotive energy absorbtion

The OHLER® EA elements (Energy Absorption elements) are manufactured from a compound of aluminium and paper giving a lightweight yet strong impact barrier for use in head linings, dashboard trims and A, B, C pillars.

With the application of OHLER® EA elements it is possible to meet the US requirements and standards applicable to a passenger’s head hitting the upper part of the passenger compartment (FMVSS 201), and to lateral collision (FMVSS 214).

The design of the OHLER® EA elements allows the target-value-oriented combination of various materials to ensure the desired energy absorption capacities are achieved.

Another advantage of OHLER® EA tubes is the wide temperature range that it can be used in. Between -40°C and +110°C the EA element is almost unaffected by the effects of heat or cold, leading to very little change in the force/deformation characteristics.

The external surface layer of paper serves the purpose of avoiding unwanted in-car rattling noises coupled with low weight and 100% recyclability means that the OHLER® EA tube holds several other important benefits.

The special production method allows for an adaptation of the geometry of the OHLER® EA elements to ideally suit the assembly space requirements of each application.
